A June day and the approach to Tenterden Station is delightfully flower studded. |
On the other side of the track the Tenterden picnic field receives a neat mowing from volunteer Paul. |
Behind the Railway Offices Graham and Veronica carry out some much needed pruning to bushes. |
More in the public gaze, is this platform flower bed on the platform. Brenda gives it some TLC. |
There is an attractive display under the station 'running-in board' which wouldn't stay that way long without attention from Veronica and others. |
Early in the season the Tuesday Gang give the Pullman ramp a spruce up. The planting here also requires attention from the Gardening group. |
The signal box garden at Tenterden receives attention with some new planting. |
Now the same bed needs to be watered - one of the many chores needing to be done. |
Finally in this Tenterden section, Veronica gives the gardens in front of the station buildings some attention. |
Down the line, lies Wittersham Rd station. It's springtime and now the ground can be worked again, there is a need for a heavy pruning back of many shrubs and heavy weeding too. |
The J15 loco's tender has already arrived for its May visit to the railway and is a backdrop to Veronica and Brenda's continuing work on the gardens |
During the general renovations to Wittersham Rd station, the opportunity is taken to cut back the overgrown garden areas on the platform. |
Old railway sleepers have been formed into new planters around the platform lamp standards. |
New soil is added to these planters (see 12) and Veronica is planting these out now with new shrubs and plants. |
Meanwhile the embankment behind the fence is tidied up by strimming the platform embankment. |
After Wittersham Rd station comes Northiam Station. Josh and Ray pause from their work in the station's kitchen garden to watch the service train arrive. |
Paul and Brenda get to grips with tidying up Northiam stations picnic area and gardens after the winter. |
On the other side of the track grassed areas and footpaths are revealed once again as Robin clears back tall grass and vegetation. |
Getting to grips with Northiam's trackside garden. The old plants are cut back and/or weeded out and vegetables are planted and canes staked out for support. |
The shrubs and flowers also get attention. |
The sun and the rain brings on strong growth - the lawns need cutting again and the flower borders weeding. It's Tuesday and we get stuck in. |
Rabbits are a problem and good fences they can't jump or burrow under are essential if anything is to survive their appetites. |
Meanwhile the privet sprigs we planted only a couple of seasons ago is now a luxuriant hedge which has enjoyed the plentiful rainfall. Ron sweeps the cuttings up after another trim. |
And then there are the platform boxes needing attention too - all in a volunteer's day's work. |
