1. Occasional Tuesday marks a particularly interesting day as in this picture when Thomas was delivered to the scene of our own operations for the day - Wittersham Rd. What better backdrop for a group picture? |
2. This picture is a reminder of the poor weather that has dogged winter Tuesdays - so many tasks have taken much longer than expected e.g. the renovation of Wittersham Rd. Here we attempt to continue work on crossing gates and hut. |
3. Ron continues to fight decay whatever the weather. Rotten boards are being removed and new ones fitted to the waiting room building adjacent to Wittersham box. |
4. Weatherproof coats are much in evidence as we attempt to fit the new shutters and prime all prepared areas of weather boarding. NOT ideal weather! |
5. Round the other side of the building Ron refits sound timber round the doorframes whilst Matt gets on with paint preparations. |
6. With a good drying day in prospect, all hands grab a paintbrush and paint pot. Railway cream gloss coat is being applied over copious other undercoats. |
7. Humph and Graham complete the gloss cream coat round the back before grey undercoating areas that require a red gloss finish. |
8.Banishing rot with the spirit level! Ron checks the newly coated roof will truly drain away well with the new gutters and down pipes in the correct places. |
9. The front of the Waiting Room at Wittersham Rd beginning to look really good once again as the shutters are top-coated red. |
10 The final task is to add the KESR location board already fitted at other KESR stations. |
11. Although we have operated from Wittersham for most of the last 2 quarters, other places have not been completely forgotten. A wind-damaged doorframe at Northiam Station is inspected before receiving attention from a TG team. |
12. Back at Wittersham Rd the newly delivered signal box steps receive a protective primer coat whilst they stored prior to installation by building contractors. |
13. Graffiti on the new S&T hut at Northiam is repainted over in railway green. |
14. High winds at Wittersham Rd brought down trees damaging the platform fencing. Ian with others sees to repairs |
15. Dave and Graham to erect a new level-crossing warning sign at Tenterden having previously painted the post. |
16. Demolition is also on the programme. The old and rotten crossing keeper's hut at Cranbrook Rd. is demolish and removed from the site. |
17. The Wittersham Rd site "clean-up' included removing the old (and unusable) toilet. |
18. Next the lamp oil store is cleaned up and repainted a comely black! |
19. Norm applies a good coat of black to the roof. |
20. Now the platform has been tidied up and overgrown plants and bush clipped back, it's time to give the white edge line a freshen up on a non-operational Tuesday. |
21. One of the tasks on-going for many, many months has been the repair and re-painting of the Northiam platform seating. Here the various slat are getting an airing after undercoating. |
22. Norm re-constructs the first seat from a kit of re-furbished parts. |
23.Dave likes to get down to a task - in this case almost shoulder- deep as the gatepost at Wittersham Rd level crossing is excavated for repositioning to effect a better fit during hot weather. |
24. Amazing! Robin checks tolerances as the open gate is closed for the first time. The post needed to be moved 3 quarters of an inch I'm told! |
