The view from the top as steps and balcony get their fair share of attention. |
The Wittersham Road scene on a sunny spring day - work continues apace. (7th May). |
Yes, the back of the box is coming on too but there is a lot more preparation to do first. |
As the duty signalman stops a train we are close to stopping our work here too - with waiting room and gates already completed. |
The gutters are refixed and all gear has been returned to base. Another successful TG project is complete. |
Whilst at Wittersham, we take the opportunity to repair broken fencing. |
And returned to base at Northiam, guess what needs attention! Rotten fence posts are replaced. |
More fencing work at Northiam as the 3 o’clock train pulls in. |
Ron tackles a Northiam gate repair next. |
Whilst (in the foreground) various people are working on repairing the seating at Northiam another seat is added to the queue of those requiring attention. |
Northiam on a grey Tuesday but the Gang are in session with both tea and trains to hand. |
A “new” seat is being renovated for the platform - of SER design. |
A “factory” production line of new timbers being prepared and painted ready for seat re-assembly. |
Allan does the final gloss touching up of the next seat to go out on the platform. |
This “new” seat starts to earn its living on platform 2 whilst the “removal men” wait to re-cross the line after a train has passed. |
Now for something completely different: back to Tenterden and the gang get to work on a re-placement crossing gate. |
The primer disappears under the first undercoat on the new crossing gate. |
However for most of the winter and spring the gang have been here at Wittersham working on the signal box - condition as of 9th April 08 |
We all stop working briefly to let an Easter holidays train pass. There’s still much to do. |
Rain has made work on the box difficult but the sun is out today and the gang are busy at work - everywhere. |
Many repairs are required in the course of the work. Here a new top light window is being re-placed. Decorative brackets as in the original box, have also been fitted under the bargeboards. |
Whilst the woodwork in one place is stripped, prepared and filled, painting goes on in another like here, on the balcony. |
To reach many parts of the wooden structure, scaffolding towers must be used - hence the race against time to complete before train services recommence and towers cannot be used near the running lines. |
Whilst woodwork repairs continue below, painting progresses above. |
