Now April has arrived, it's difficult to remember those truly awful Tuesdays at the start of the year - High winds - and trees fell! (Wittersham Rd) |
Our main task we had started in the Autumn was the repainting and exterior renovation of Wittersham Rd signal box. As these lineside shots show(also at Witt Rd) there was no chance! |
There was another substantial job at Rolvenden - putting in a fence and hedge plantings: Here's a shot of the work area on the 16th January |
So back to base at Northiam for the hardy types who had turned out, to do a spot of hut improvement and a start on yet more platform seat repairs. |
When the sun emerged - usually a brief respite , we managed to do some white lining - here at Northiam .... |
and here at Tenterden. Are they still there I wonder!!! |
Ron and Alan get stuck in to canopy support repairs at Tenterden - a good wet weather job under cover but here the sun shines. |
John and Matthew have also worked away at repainting Tenterden Station office window frames and sills. |
The sun has got his hat on ..... Hip hip hip hooray |
So down the road to the Somme-like mud of Rolvenden where we we have the task of erecting a fence to comply with planning regulations. |
It was decided by one and all early on, that wellies were essential rather than work boots! |
Ron and Stan see to trimming off the fence posts - just the paint job now. |
The creosote is applied and here we all are pleased we will not be standing out in this exposed field in February again - at least till next year. |
Our amphibious vehicle supplies transport for crossing Rolvenden lake! Pity about the bubbles from the leaking barrow tyre! |
Ron and Stan inspect the rotten woodwork on the Tenterden publicity store before setting about some repairs as an interim measure. |
Just behind them, Ian and co see to the steps leading to the offices. |
It's March by now and the weather has improved sufficiently to re-start the Wittersham signal box project. Here a window is being replaced. |
A bit drafty for the signalman today as the window is removed and then replaced with a brand new frame. |
And of course beavering away all round the box are folk burning sanding, filling holes and brushing on primer and undercoat paint. |
Change of task at Wittersham - mending a walkway fence in the sunshine! |
The 'red" undercoat begins to spread round the box giving it a more imposing appearance than patched grey. |
One of the top lights is being replaced whilst on the far end a contractor is re-glazing some of the windows. |
All work halts as the service train appears from Rolvenden making a fine sight on a lovely blue April Tuesday. |
Everyone back to work - front back and the two ends as well! |
